As part of a regional Teaching School Hub partnership in the East Midlands, Leicester & Leicestershire TS Hub are proud to be supporting The MTPT Project’s Parental Leave Group Coaching Programme throughout the academic year 2024-25.

This three-session programme offers colleagues in the East Midlands empowering group coaching when they are on maternity, adoption or shared parental leave.

Ensuring the programme is fully-funded for state school colleagues is just one of the ways that Leicester & Leicestershire TS Hub is addressing the recommendation in the recent Missing Mothers report by The New Britain Project and The MTPT Project, which called for “a comprehensive coaching programme for mothers during, and post-maternity leave”.  The report found that only 38% of mother-teachers surveyed were satisfied with the maternity leave and transition support provided by their school.

Jenny, a Leicestershire-based secondary teacher completed the Parental Leave group coaching programme in 2023.  She said: “The coaching gave me time and space to think about myself and my goals.  It was baby and toddler friendly, and it was nice to realise how similar a lot of us on the cohort were finding maternity leave.”

Jenny found that the coaching gave her an increased sense of positivity, increased her motivation to complete physical activity whilst on leave and enabled her to clarify her priorities and values.  She loved widening her professional network and gained a sense of community from “sharing and discussing with other people in a safe space.”
