Holocaust Educational Trust - Funded Professional Recognition Award

Rolf Schild and Holocaust Educational Trust Professional Recognition Award

The Holocaust Educational Trust is proud to launch the Rolf Schild and Holocaust Educational Trust Professional Recognition Award.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday 10 December 2024.

Thanks to generous support from the Schild family, the Professional Recognition Award will enable teachers to complete a funded 3-stage programme of professional development through the Trust, encompassing residential study both in the UK and abroad.

Participating teachers will be expected to complete each of the following:

  • Our 4-day foundational Exploring the Holocaust: UK Residential Course (February 2025 or February 2026)
  • A 4-day Teacher Study Visit to Europe (held each May and October)
  • And our Advanced Teacher Training Programme in partnership with Yad Vashem (held each July-August)

To qualify for the Award, all of these programmes of study need to be completed within a maximum of three-years.

To support teachers on this journey, the Schild family will provide:

  • Travel subsidies to attend each residential course (in the UK and overseas)
  • Teacher cover for schools which are not on school holiday during the programmes
  • Free teacher training workshops, delivered by a member of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s teacher training team for each participating teacher’s home institution
  • On conclusion of the award, teachers will be invited to attend a Schild Alumni Conference and will become part of an alumni teacher network.

Applications are invited from primary, secondary and FE teachers of any subject area who are currently in post across the UK.

Alongside attendance on a residential course, teachers committed to the programme would be expected to complete a series of assignments (including reflective essays of between 3,000-4,000-words and teaching portfolios) which demonstrate both the learning and impact of each programme on their classroom practice. Following participation in each residential course, teachers will be supported in their reflections via access to a virtual learning environment and online meetings with staff from the Trust.
